Spring at the lake

Enjoy a sea of blossoms by the Swabian Sea (as the locals jokingly refer to the lake)
The Lake Constance region transforms itself to a blaze of colourful blossoms in spring. Hundreds of thousands of apple trees, pear trees and other types of fruit trees present this amazing spectacle of nature in white and red.
Spring comes to Lake Constance earlier than in other regions. While the lifts of the nearby Swiss and Austrian Alps still operate for sunshine skiing, guests can enjoy the spring temperatures in the gardens along the lakeside promenade and in the street and lakeside cafés of Langenargen as from mid March. The first ice cream of spring tastes particularly good after a long winter. Spring is also an ideal time of year to go on a bike tour along Lake Constance or to go hiking in the hilly hinterlands.

For a number of years now, around mid April, the whole town of Langenargen has celebrated a grand historical Saisoneröffnung festival at Montfort Castle.

Impressive play of colors in autumn

The deep blue lake, the sugar-coated Alps, the patchwork colors of the woods: Autumn creates an impressive display of colors at Lake of the Constance.
You can take a leisurely walk along the Swabian seafront and enjoy the breathtaking views of the moody lake and the Swiss Alps on the opposite side. But if you would prefer to go on a more challenging mountain hiking tour, you can do this in the nearby Alps of Allgäu and Austria.
Watch the fruit farmers as they reap their apples and try the crunchy apples of Lake Constance. The regional fruit is a true pleasure even in liquid form as apple juice or fruit schnaps. The local catering businesses pamper you with delicacies from cuisine and cellar. A freshly caught and prepared filet of whitefish together with a tangy white wine is a true treat for the pallate.

Wintertime: Tranquillity at the lake

Life around the lake slows down and becomes quieter in winter. However, this certainly doesn't mean that it gets boring here. Lake Constance also has its own special charm in winter. The lake lies tranquilly in the white winter landscape, here and there are birds strutting back and forth on the thin layer of ice at the water's edge. People stroll leisurely along the promenade, enjoying the tranquillity and the clear view of the snow-capped Alps on the opposite side of the lake. There is no sign of the hectic activity that usually prevails here in summer months. And, after an invigorating winter walk through the snowy landscape, the culinary specialities of the region, such as a fried filet of whitefish from the lake, taste particularly good.
The Christmas market in the historical town centre of Langenargen has been a popular venue during the Advent season for many years. Langenargen is also an ideal starting point for those who would like to go skiing in the nearby Alps of Allgäu and Austria. The ski resorts in Allgäu (e.g. Oberstaufen, Immenstadt and Balderschwang) and in the Bregenzerwald region (e.g. Bödele, Diedamskopf, Damüls) provide great fun on the slopes in close proximity to Lake Constance (approx. 45 minutes – 1.5 hours driving time). Those who have higher ambitions can take a day trip to the Arlberg region to Lech/Zürs/St.Anton or to the Montafon region to Schruns or Gargellen. These ski resorts can be reached via the Rheintalautobahn in around 1.5 hours.
