Welcome to Langenargen at the Lake of Constance

Langenargen - Sunny town at the Lake of Constance

Langenargen - Sunny town at Lake Constance
Deep in the south of Germany lies Langenargen on the Swabian banks of Lake Constance, also known as the Bodensee, between the zeppelin town of Friedrichshafen and the Bavarian island town of Lindau. The unique location on a headland jutting directly into Lake Constance gives Langenargen its slogan: Sunny town at Lake Constance. The Mediterranean flair of the picturesque littly town by the lake is what makes many holiday guests come back to langenargen again and again. Striking highlights of the town are the water front promenade - one of the largest beside Lake Constance - and the beautiful banks with landscaped gardens and flower beds.

Landmark of Langenargen: Montfort Castle

Montfort Castle, situated at the tip of the headland, was built in the 14th century by order of the Count of Montfort. After a chageful history, the construction of today's castle was carried out between 1861 and 1866 by order of King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and his heir to the throne Karl. The castle, which was built in the Moorish-style, later served as the summer residence of Princess Luise of Prussia, who, with her royal household, spent the summer months in Langenargen for 30 years.
Montfort Castle has now been under ownership of the municipality of Langenargen since 1961. The castle now provides guests with a restaurant-café with sun terrace, as well as spacious rooms for weddings, conferences, congresses and company events facilitating 10 – 300 people.
Climbing up to the top of the tower is a special experience. The tower of the castle allows visitors a wonderful view of the lake, the Swiss Alps on the opposite side of the lake, as well as the hilly landscape of the hinteland.
